Every garden begins with an idea — sometimes clear, sometimes uncertain. Whether you’re confident about what you’d like, or don’t know where to start, my role is to make the design and planting process clear, enjoyable and inspiring.
From your first ideas through to a completed garden, I’ll guide you step by step.
The aim is simple: to design a space that feels right for you and brings joy every time you step outside.
Client Brief – Our first conversation explores your vision: the atmosphere, style and impact you’d like your garden to create. I’ll help shape those ideas into something inspiring yet realistic, discussing scope, budget and timings.
Site Assessment – I’ll review your garden’s soil, light and microclimate to understand how a design might work in the space and which plants will thrive.
Concept Design – I’ll create a layout that balances structure with planting, reflecting your style and practical needs. Depending on the project, this may be shown through sketches, mood imagery and CAD visuals, to help you picture how the garden will take shape.
- Initial cost estimates – Even before a garden design is detailed, I will guide you through potential landscaping and plant costs so that the design remains achieveable within your budget.
Planting Plans & Mood Boards – Whether you need screening and focal points or statement borders, I design combinations of colour, foliage and form to bring year-round colour, texture and interest.
Ground Preparation Guidance – Practical advice to get your soil ready, giving plants the best possible start.
Plant Sourcing & Planting – I source high-quality plants, shrubs and trees from trusted nurseries and can work alongside landscape contractors to plant these for you
Seasonal Care Plan – A simple, practical calendar to help you look after your plants, with optional ‘guided gardening’ sessions to walk you through their care.
Great gardens are created by professionals – I work alongside skilled landscapers, architects and gardeners to help create your garden with care and attention to detail. My input varies depending on the initial brief and the final design – it may include recommending a local landscape contractor or working alongside your own; detailing elements of the design; agreeing specifications; guidance on soil preparation; general project consultancy on design decisions and hard landscaping materials; lighting and irrigation planning. Each garden project is unique and I always adapt to the needs of my clients and landscaping colleagues.
