The re-design focused on taking parts of the original garden and reinventing them in a more exciting way, to make the existing hard landscaping ‘work harder’ and allow vibrant planting and other garden features to take centre stage.
The new garden has more structure and flow, with a series of distinct but connected areas to encourage the clients to enjoy the great outdoors:
- Covered dining hub with outdoor kitchen, perfect for year-round entertaining, right at the centre of the garden
- Evening sun terrace with ornamental screens and immersive planting for a more den-like feel – ideal for enjoying a drink as the day winds down
- Re-designed and re-pointed connecting terrace, with new planting now breaking up the expanse of old paving, framing the house with vibrant colour, and carving out a defined ‘nook’ for informal coffee in the sunshine
- A sculptural corten steel water feature to inject movement and sound within a new year-round planting scheme
The garden now feels open and contemporary, yet cohesive with the characterful 1920s property. The client now have a welcoming, uplifting space with plenty of reasons to get outside in all weathers!
With thanks to George Hugh Landscape Contractors for their skill and craftsmanship in bringing the design to life, and working hard through a hot summer!
