In addition to my private design work, I have also worked as Garden Projects Manager for Greenfingers Charity – creating magical gardens for children in hospices across the UK.
A Greenfingers garden can be many things – an area for play, exploration, therapy, reflection and relaxation – often simply a space where children in hospices can spend time together with their family, friends and carers in an inspiring and protective environment, outside in the fresh air and away from the bedside.
At the heart of Greenfingers’ work is the belief that for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, time spent outside in a natural environment can be enormously beneficial. In the role I worked to co-ordinate designers. contractors, volunteers and donors to thoughtfully design and build special gardens to suit the needs of the children, families and carers who spend time there.
